Solitárias is a term that can refer to several things, most commonly tapeworms in the class Cestoda. These are parasitic flatworms that live in the digestive tract of vertebrates. Tapeworms have a segmented body, with a head (scolex) that attaches to the host's intestinal wall and a series of segments called proglottids, which contain reproductive organs. As tapeworms mature, these proglottids detach and are passed in the host's feces. Infection in humans can occur through consuming undercooked meat or contaminated food and water.
