Sillin, written sillín in Spanish and used in some Iberian languages, refers to a seat or saddle used for riding or cycling. In common modern usage, the term is most closely associated with the bicycle saddle—the seat attached to the bike’s seat post that supports the rider.

In bicycles, the sillín is designed to support weight and distribute pressure during riding. Designs vary to balance comfort and performance, including general-purpose comfort saddles, performance saddles intended for long-distance or racing, and variants tailored for women or men. Shapes may differ in width, nose length, and the presence of cutouts or channels to relieve pressure on sensitive areas. Materials typically include a foam or gel padding covered by leather or synthetic uppers, with rails made of steel, titanium, or carbon fiber to attach to the seat post.

Selection and fit are influenced by factors such as rider anatomy, riding style, and bike geometry. A properly chosen sillín should support a natural sitting position and minimize numbness or discomfort during extended use. Adjustments often involve height, tilt, and setback from the bottom bracket, as well as the alignment with the rider’s sit bones.

Maintenance involves regular inspection for wear, cleaning, and periodic replacement of padding or covers. The rails and mounting area should be checked for cracks or looseness, and bolts should be tightened according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
