Siittiöissä is a term used in Finnish to refer to sperm cells. These are the male reproductive cells produced in the testes of many animals, including humans. Sperm cells are responsible for carrying the male genetic material to fertilize the female egg cell, or ovum, during sexual reproduction.

Structurally, a sperm cell is typically composed of a head, a midpiece, and a tail. The head contains the nucleus, which houses the haploid set of chromosomes (half the number of chromosomes found in a normal body cell). The midpiece is packed with mitochondria, the cell's powerhouses, which provide the energy needed for the tail's movement. The tail, or flagellum, is a whip-like appendage that enables the sperm to swim through the female reproductive tract towards the egg.

The production of sperm cells, known as spermatogenesis, is a continuous process in sexually mature males. It begins at puberty and continues throughout a male's life. This complex biological process involves cell division and differentiation to produce mature, motile sperm cells. The quantity and quality of sperm can be influenced by various factors, including age, health, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. Successful fertilization requires a sufficient number of healthy, motile sperm cells to reach and penetrate the egg.
