Severalcar is a term used in discussions of flexible urban mobility to describe vehicles designed to serve multiple roles within a fleet or to change configuration to accommodate different tasks. The term combines several and car, signaling multiplicity rather than a single fixed function.

Interpretations vary. In one sense, severalcar refers to a single vehicle whose interior and powertrain can be reconfigured—for example, switching between a five-seat passenger layout, a cargo-hauling setup, or a hybrid of seating and cargo—without leaving the vehicle base. In another sense, it denotes a fleet approach in which a group of cars operates as a modular unit, dynamically allocating capacity in response to demand.

Design and technology for severalcars emphasize modular interiors, swappable seating or cargo modules, scalable powertrains or battery packs, and software-enabled fleet coordination. Common features include adjustable seating, plug-and-play cargo modules, standardized interfaces for quick reconfiguration, and autonomous or semi-autonomous operation to optimize routing and utilization.

Use cases include on-demand carsharing that adapts to trip mix, last-mile delivery paired with passenger service, campus or corporate shuttles, and emergency response scenarios requiring rapid mode switches.

Challenges include regulatory classification, safety certification for modular interiors, maintenance complexity, higher upfront costs, and the need for interoperable software and charging infrastructure. While discussed mainly in mobility research and planning contexts, severalcar remains a developing concept with no universally adopted standard.
