Semikvantitativa is a term used to describe methods and approaches that aim to estimate quantity on a partial or ordinal scale rather than providing exact numerical values. In semikvantitativa analyses, results are typically reported in categories, ranges, or relative levels (for example, low, medium, high, or ±1, ±2), instead of precise measurements. This approach is common when exact quantification is impractical, costly, or unnecessary for decision making.

The concept spans multiple disciplines. In molecular biology, semikvantitativa techniques include endpoint PCR to approximate gene expression by comparing product abundance after a fixed number of cycles, often assessed by gel band intensity. In clinical diagnostics and biochemistry, semikvantitativa tests may yield semi-quantitative readouts such as colorimetric intensity or density on a test strip, which correlate with concentration ranges rather than exact amounts. In medical imaging or scoring systems, semikvantitativna methods assign grades or scores to reflect relative severity or extent.

Advantages of semikvantitativa methods include lower cost, faster turnaround, and reduced dependence on specialized instrumentation. They can be robust to certain sources of error and provide actionable information when precise quantification is not required. Limitations involve reduced precision, potential subjectivity in interpretation, and limited comparability across different methods or laboratories. When precise measurement is necessary, quantitative (absolute) methods are preferred.
