Selflevelling (also self-leveling) describes materials, devices and systems that automatically attain or maintain a level orientation or surface without manual smoothing or adjustment. The term commonly applies to fluid or semi-fluid compounds that spread under gravity to form a flat surface and to mechanical or electronic systems that correct tilt.

In materials, selflevelling products include floor screeds, epoxies, polyurethanes and paint formulations. These are engineered with controlled viscosity, surface tension and curing behavior so that, when poured, they flow to fill low spots and create a smooth, even finish. Applications include industrial and residential floors, coatings over substrates, and repair compounds. Performance depends on substrate preparation, pour thickness, ambient conditions and product chemistry; limitations include drying shrinkage, edge feathering and maximum workable depth.

In mechanical and electromechanical contexts, selflevelling refers to suspension systems, gimbals, and stabilizers that use hydraulic, pneumatic or electronic feedback to keep a platform level. Examples range from vehicle self-leveling suspension to camera gimbals and marine auto-leveling devices. Surveying instruments such as automatic optical levels use a pendulum or sensor-based mechanism to restore a horizontal reference automatically.

Across contexts, the principle relies on gravity-driven flow or feedback control. Proper selection, installation and safety precautions (ventilation, protective equipment for chemical products) are important for reliable performance. Standards and best practices vary by industry and application.
