Scrumlike is a term used in agile software development and project management to describe processes and workflows that resemble Scrum without a full, formal adoption of the Scrum framework. It denotes practices that are iterative and incremental, emphasize collaboration, and use lightweight governance, but may depart from Scrum’s prescribed roles, artifacts, and ceremonies.

Common characteristics include a backlog-driven workflow and time-boxed work periods, often called sprints, along with regular planning, review, and retrospective activities. Teams are typically cross-functional and self-organizing. However, in scrumlike approaches some events may be shortened, combined, or omitted, and known roles such as Scrum Master or Product Owner may be replaced or shared among team members.

Scrumlike is distinct from Scrum in that it intentionally avoids strict adherence to all Scrum rules. It borrows elements such as backlog management, sprint-like iterations, and frequent feedback loops, but with customized cadence, roles, or governance to fit the organization. A common related form is Scrumban, a hybrid of Scrum and Kanban, which is often described as scrumlike.

Usage and rationale: small teams, startups, or organizations seeking rapid delivery with lower process overhead may adopt scrumlike practices to gain agility without committing to a full Scrum rollout. Benefits include faster feedback, improved visibility, and adaptive planning; risks include drift from disciplined practice, inconsistent practices, and ambiguity about responsibilities.

The term is informal and not part of the official Agile lexicon. As such, its meaning can vary between teams, and it should be described within a given project context to avoid confusion.
