Sceners is a colloquial term used to describe people who participate in or identify with a particular social or cultural scene, such as a local music scene, nightlife, fashion, or art community. The word is derived from “scene” and is closely related to terms like scenester or scene kid. It originated in English-speaking countries and gained prominence in discussions of late 1990s and 2000s subcultures, particularly those centered on emo, punk, indie, goth, and electronic scenes.

Common characteristics of sceners include regular attendance at venues, clubs, concerts, or gallery openings; a keen interest in the aesthetics and trends of a specific scene; and an effort to cultivate a distinctive look or persona associated with that scene. They often participate in online communities and social media to share events, photos, playlists, and opinions, and may form networks with local organizers, bands, designers, and venue staff.

Regional variations exist. In Australia and parts of the United Kingdom, “scener” or “scenester” describes someone notably plugged into fashionable nightlife and events, while “scene kid” is often linked to younger participants within certain internet-influenced subcultures.

Roles within scenes can vary from organizers and promoters to casual participants who contribute to the scene’s culture and reputation. The label can carry different connotations, ranging from authentic engagement with a community to a perception of performative fashion, depending on context and perspective.
