Scamanders are a group of small, semi-aquatic amphibians belonging to the family Salamandridae. They are found in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, inhabiting a variety of environments such as forests, meadows, and wetlands. These creatures are characterized by their slender bodies, long tails, and smooth, moist skin, which can come in a range of colors, often featuring bright warning patterns.

While they share a superficial resemblance to lizards, salamanders are amphibians, meaning they typically undergo metamorphosis, starting life as aquatic larvae with gills and developing lungs for terrestrial or semi-aquatic adult life. Their diet primarily consists of insects, worms, and other small invertebrates, which they catch using a sticky tongue. Reproduction in scamanders often involves external fertilization, with males depositing spermatophores that females then collect.

Scamanders are known for their regenerative abilities, capable of regrowing lost limbs or even parts of their tails. This trait has made them subjects of scientific study. They are generally shy and nocturnal, preferring to hide under logs, rocks, or in damp soil during the day. Their presence is often an indicator of a healthy, unpolluted environment due to their sensitivity to water and air quality.
