Süvamereangler, also known as the deep-sea anglerfish, refers to a diverse group of fish inhabiting the abyssal zones of the world's oceans. These fish are characterized by their distinctive bioluminescent lure, an esca, which is a modified fin ray that extends from their head. This lure is used to attract prey in the perpetual darkness of the deep sea. Anglerfish exhibit extreme sexual dimorphism, with the males being significantly smaller than the females and often permanently attached to the female's body. The male's sole purpose is to provide sperm for reproduction.

These fish possess large mouths filled with sharp, needle-like teeth, adapted for capturing unsuspecting prey that are drawn to their glowing lure. Their bodies are often flattened and somewhat grotesque in appearance, a common adaptation for life under immense pressure and scarcity of food. Anglerfish are solitary predators, lying in wait for their meals. Their diet consists of smaller fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. Due to the difficulty in accessing their habitat, much of their behavior and life cycle remains poorly understood. They are found in all oceans, typically at depths ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 meters.
