Rolltet is a fictional term used to describe a class of modular rolling actuators in robotics and design literature. It is not an established term in real-world engineering, but appears in speculative design writings and game design discussions as a model of compact, self-contained locomotion units.

The name combines "roll" with the diminutive suffix -et, suggesting a small rolling device.

A rolltet consists of a compact shell housing an internal actuation unit and a small control system. Variants include passive rolltets that rely on gravity and contact geometry to move, and active rolltets that use motors or magnetic bearings to adjust motion. Typical diameters range from 5 to 20 centimeters, and materials include lightweight plastics or composites.

Movement is achieved by shifting internal mass or by rotating internal rollers, enabling omnidirectional rolling on flat and irregular surfaces. Traction and maneuverability are tuned through surface interaction and internal friction management, allowing controlled transitions between rolling and minor tumbling when needed.

Applications in fiction and conceptual design include navigating rough terrain, stair climbing, and modular assembly in swarm robotics. They are also imagined as consumer devices such as self-rolling luggage or dynamic figurines, where a single unit or a swarm of units adapts to the surrounding environment.
