The plural risikoer is commonly found in Danish and Norwegian writings and is often used interchangeably with the English term risk owner. The concept emphasizes accountability for a defined risk area rather than the risk itself.

A risk owner is identified for each significant risk during risk assessment and is responsible for monitoring the risk, defining and implementing mitigating actions, and reporting on progress. They maintain or contribute to the risk register for their domain, ensure that treatment plans are carried out, and escalate issues when risk levels exceed acceptable thresholds.
