These rooms are constructed to have a very long reverberation time, meaning that sound persists in the room for a significant duration after the sound source has stopped. This is typically achieved by having hard, smooth, and highly reflective surfaces such as concrete or tile, and a carefully designed shape with irregular angles and diffusion elements to promote a diffuse sound field.

The primary purpose of a reverberationsrum is to provide a consistent and predictable acoustic environment. In such a room, sound waves are reflected numerous times, creating a uniform sound pressure level throughout the space.
