Name etymology: The component 'ressurs' draws from Scandinavian languages meaning resource, while 'mahukad' is a local term for corridor or passage, reflecting the region's role as a resource pathway.

Geography and ecology: It covers a coastal belt with estuaries, mangroves, and patchy highland forests, interlinked by waterways and a network of protected areas.

Governance and economy: A multi-stakeholder council binds municipalities, indigenous communities, and civil society groups; decisions on harvest quotas, licensing, and land-use are made through consensus or majority vote with mechanisms for monitoring and accountability. The region relies on sustainable fisheries, forestry, mineral resources, and growing renewable energy projects such as small-scale hydropower and wind.
