Requalificação, or requalificação profissional, is the process of updating or acquiring new competencies to meet evolving job requirements and technological changes. It encompasses retraining for entering a new occupation (reskilling) as well as upgrading skills within the same field (upskilling). It can involve formal courses, on-the-job training, internships, or recognition of prior learning.

In many countries, requalificação is part of active labor market policies implemented by government agencies, employers, or unions, often with subsidies or incentives to reduce unemployment and support productivity. Target groups include unemployed workers, employees at risk of displacement, and young entrants to the labor market.

Delivery methods include vocational education programs, adult education, online learning, micro-credentials, apprenticeships, and workplace training. Programs may be designed with labor market intelligence to align with demand and may require validation through certificates or qualifications recognized by official bodies.

In urban planning, requalificação also refers to the redevelopment or revitalization of districts, buildings, or public spaces to improve functionality, housing quality, and attractiveness.

Critics point to gaps between training and actual labor market needs, unequal access, quality variation across providers, and the time and cost required for meaningful impact.
