The word derives from rejtőzködik, meaning to hide oneself, and is used across disciplines to describe processes that reduce cues available to observers, predators, or rivals. The standard Hungarian form is rejtőzködési (with the diacritic ő); the form without diacritics, rejtzködési, also appears in some texts.
