Reflexband, also known as reflective band, is a band made from retroreflective material designed to reflect light back toward its source to enhance visibility in low-light conditions. It is used on clothing, accessories, equipment and safety gear to improve recognition by drivers and others.

Retroreflective materials rely on microprismatic elements or glass beads that scatter light in a direction back to the light source, rather than scattering in many directions. Common forms include reflective tapes (backed fabrics) and woven or stitched reflective threads. The color of the band is typically gray-silver to maximize reflectivity, though color can be added with a contrasting base fabric.

Typical applications include high-visibility clothing such as vests, armbands, belts, and stripes on jackets; bags, backpacks, helmets, footwear; sportswear for nighttime running or cycling; and workwear in industrial settings.

Performance is described by retroreflectivity, measured in candelas per lux per square meter (cd/lx/m^2). Standards vary by region: EN ISO 20471 governs high-visibility clothing; EN 13356 covers retroreflective materials; in the United States ANSI/ISEA 107 specifies requirements for high-visibility safety apparel.

Manufacturing often bonds a retroreflective tape to a base fabric or weaves reflective fibers into the material. Care instructions emphasize gentle washing and avoiding abrasive cleaners to preserve reflectivity; dirt and wear reduce brightness.

History: retroreflective materials were developed in the mid-20th century for road safety, with early tapes developed by companies such as 3M. Since then reflexbands have become standard in traffic safety and outdoor activity gear.
