Püsikiirusel, often translated as "cruise control" in English, is a system in vehicles that automatically controls the engine to maintain a constant speed set by the driver. This feature is primarily designed to enhance driving comfort, especially on long journeys or highways, by reducing the driver's need to constantly adjust the accelerator pedal.

The operation of püsikiirusel typically involves the driver setting a desired speed. Once activated, sensors monitor the vehicle's speed. If the speed drops below the set point, the system increases engine power to compensate. Conversely, if the speed exceeds the set point, it reduces engine power. Most modern püsikiirusel systems also allow for adjustments to the set speed, such as increasing or decreasing it incrementally, and can be easily deactivated by braking, pressing the clutch, or a dedicated cancel button.

While beneficial for comfort and potentially fuel efficiency by maintaining an optimal speed, drivers are still required to remain attentive and ready to take control at all times. Püsikiirusel is generally not recommended for use in adverse weather conditions, heavy traffic, or on winding roads where frequent speed adjustments are necessary. Its primary purpose is to alleviate the physical strain of maintaining a steady speed over extended periods.
