Punasoluiksi is a Finnish term that expresses becoming red blood cells or being designated as red blood cells. Linguistically, punasolu means red blood cell; the suffix -iksi indicates becoming or designation, hence punasoluiksi means “into red blood cells” or “as red blood cells.” In Finnish scientific literature, it is used to describe processes in which cells differentiate toward the erythroid lineage.

In biology, erythropoiesis is the process of producing red blood cells.
