They are widely used in municipal water supply, heating and cooling installations, industrial processing, irrigation, and fire protection.

A typical pumpsüsteemi comprises a pump (or pumps), piping and fittings, valves for controlling flow and direction, and control or monitoring equipment. Some configurations include a reservoir or surge tank, filtration, chemical dosing, or heat exchangers. Design and performance considerations include the required flow rate (Q) and head (H), efficiency, net positive suction head (NPSH) to avoid cavitation, material compatibility with the liquid, temperature, and viscosity. Operation and maintenance focus on seals and bearings, priming where necessary, monitoring for cavitation, leaks, vibration, and routine inspections and servicing. Environmental and safety aspects address energy use, noise, leak containment, and proper shut-off procedures.
