promovendi

Promovendi are individuals pursuing a doctoral degree, typically a PhD, within a Dutch-speaking university or research institution. They conduct original research under the supervision of a promotor and, in many cases, a copromotor, with the aim of contributing new knowledge to their field. In the Netherlands and Flanders, promovendi are often employed by the university as researchers or teaching staff and receive a salary or stipend for the duration of their contract, commonly around four years, though the exact length varies by program and funding.
