Probleemtype is a concept used in problem classification to denote categories of problems defined by shared characteristics that influence how they are approached and solved. The term blends the Dutch words probleem and type and appears in multilingual literature to discuss problem categories across science, engineering, education and policy.

Problems can be described along several dimensions. Structure distinguishes well-posed problems, which have a clear goal, constraints, and a unique solution, from ill-posed problems, which may lack a precise goal or stable solution. Uncertainty separates deterministic problems from stochastic or probabilistic ones. Dynamics differentiate static problems from those that evolve over time. Additional axes include discreteness versus continuity, domain-general versus domain-specific relevance, and objective versus subjective evaluation.
