pozycyjny

Pozycyjny is an adjective in Polish that means related to position or arrangement in space or sequence. It describes phenomena, systems, or conditions whose value, interpretation, or behavior depends on the position of objects or elements. The word is formed from the noun pozycja (position) with the adjectival suffix -ny and derives from Latin positio through Polish.

In mathematics and computing, pozycyjny system liczbowy (positional numeral system) is widely used to describe numeral systems in which the value of a digit depends on its place. The decimal and binary systems are common examples.

In chess and other strategic games, the terms gra pozycyjna (positional play) or pozycyjny styl gry (positional playing style) denote approaches focused on positional factors such as pawn structure, space, and piece activity rather than direct tactical combinations.

In navigation, surveying, and metrology, pozycyjny is used in expressions like błąd pozycyjny to denote inaccuracies in determining or representing a position.

In medicine and physiology, there is use of błóg pozycyjny or ból zależny od pozycji to describe pain that is elicited or aggravated by a particular body position.
