A porównywacz, often translated as a comparator or comparison tool, is a functional component in electronics designed to compare two input voltages. It outputs a signal indicating the relationship between these voltages, typically signifying whether one is greater than, less than, or equal to the other.

The core principle of a porównywacz relies on operational amplifiers (op-amps) or dedicated comparator integrated circuits. These devices have high open-loop gain. When the input voltages differ even slightly, the op-amp saturates, producing a distinct output voltage. For example, if the non-inverting input is higher than the inverting input, the output will swing to a high voltage, and vice-versa.

Comparators are fundamental building blocks in various electronic systems. They are used in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to determine which discrete voltage range an analog signal falls into. They also find application in threshold detection circuits, where an output changes state when an input signal crosses a predefined level.
