polyporoid
Polyporoid refers to a large and diverse group of fungi, primarily within the Basidiomycota. These fungi are commonly known as polypores or bracket fungi due to their characteristic fruiting body structure, which often appears as a shelf or bracket growing from wood. A defining feature of polyporoids is the presence of pores on the underside of their fruiting bodies, which are hymenia where spores are produced. These pores are essentially tube mouths. This contrasts with many other gilled mushrooms, which have lamellae or gills for spore dispersal.
The polyporoid fungi exhibit a wide range of growth habits. Many are saprotrophic, meaning they obtain nutrients
Taxonomically, the term polyporoid has been used somewhat broadly over time. Traditionally, it encompassed many species
