Plánovanie is the Slovak term for planning, the process of defining objectives and arranging actions to achieve them. In practice it covers a range of activities from personal time management to complex organizational and public-sector decision making. Etymologically, it derives from plán (plan) and the verb plánovať; the noun plánovanie denotes the activity or the outcome of planning.

In management and business, plánovanie involves setting goals, assessing resources, identifying feasible actions, scheduling, and allocating responsibilities and budgets. It supports coordination, risk management, and performance monitoring. Several levels are recognised: strategic planning for long-term aims and external environment; tactical planning translating strategy into short- to medium-term actions; and operational planning detailing day-to-day workflows. Contingency planning accounts for possible disruptions.

In urban and spatial contexts, plánovanie refers to planning of land use, transport, housing, and public services, often governed by legal frameworks and public participation. In personal use, it encompasses time management and goal setting, helping individuals prioritise tasks and manage commitments.

Common tools include scenario planning, SWOT analysis, Gantt charts, roadmaps, and project calendars. Successful plánovanie relies on clear objectives, realistic assessment of constraints, stakeholder involvement, and iterative review. Challenges include uncertainty, limited resources, and political or organisational change. Overall, plánovanie aims to improve efficiency, alignment, and foresight across activities and sectors.
