Applications include bitmap images, pixel art, and bitmap fonts. In display technology and user interfaces, a pixelbaserad design treats each position in a grid as a discrete sample, which yields crisp edges on the target resolution but introduces scaling limitations. Common formats for pixel-based graphics include PNG or BMP, which encode color per pixel.

Rendering and processing of pixelbaserade images typically involve rasterization, color quantization, dithering, and anti-aliasing. Advantages are simple implementation and predictable rendering at a given resolution, while drawbacks include poor scalability, enlarged file sizes for detailed images, and visible artifacts when scaled beyond original resolution.
