Pigmentm, or Pigment M, is a hypothetical pigment used in color science and education to illustrate principles of pigment behavior in subtractive color systems. It is not a real, commercially available pigment, but a defined reference used in theoretical discussions and software simulations.

In these models, pigmentm is described by a broad absorption feature in the green portion of the spectrum, with additional tailing into adjacent wavelengths. Its hypothetical reflectance spectrum yields a mid-range hue that is typically represented near green in color space under standard illumination. The exact spectral curve can be adjusted to explore hue shifts that occur with mixing, lightness changes, and different lighting conditions.

Pigmentm is used to demonstrate how pigments interact with light and with each other. By combining pigmentm with white, black, or other reference pigments, students can observe predictable changes in hue, saturation, and brightness that align with established colorimetric theories such as the Kubelka–Munk model.

In practice, pigmentm serves as a pedagogical tool and is not produced physically. Real pigments are characterized by chemical composition, particle size, binder compatibility, and stability, and are described by their reflectance spectra, color coordinates, and safety data. As a fictional reference, pigmentm helps illustrate concepts in color mixing, spectrophotometry, and digital color representation without relying on a specific material.
