Panelfiltre, often used in HVAC terminology in several Northern European languages, refers to a type of rigid panel air filter designed to remove particulates from supply or return air within ventilation systems. The term denotes a flat, pane-like filtration element mounted in a frame, typically installed in filter housings or racks.

Design and media

Panelfilter media are commonly constructed from fiberglass, synthetic fibers, or pleated synthetic media, encased in a rigid frame made of metal, cardboard, or plastic. They are produced in standard dimensions and thicknesses, most commonly around 1 inch (25 mm) or 2 inches (50 mm). Filtration efficiency is described using standards such as MERV in some regions or ISO/ePM ratings in others, reflecting the ability to capture dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, and other airborne particles. They function best as a prefilter or in systems where moderate filtration is sufficient.

Applications

Panelfiltre are widely used in commercial and residential HVAC systems to protect equipment and improve indoor air quality. They can serve as the first line of filtration in air handling units and can be combined with higher-efficiency filters for enhanced performance.
