Panelengevels are a façade system in which the exterior wall is formed from prefabricated panels that are mounted on a supporting framework. The panels are typically manufactured off-site and can be made from a range of materials, including metal (such as aluminium or steel), aluminium composite panels (ACP), fibre cement, concrete, glass, or timber-based composites. Many panel systems employ a sandwich construction with an insulating core (for example mineral wool or polyurethane) to improve thermal performance and air tightness.

Installation typically involves mounting the panels to a secondary structure, such as metal studs or a concrete frame. Joints are designed to accommodate movement and weather sealing is provided with gaskets and sealants. The appearance can be flat or sculpted, and finishes may include powder coating, anodizing, PVDF coatings, or printed textures.

Advantages of panelengevels include rapid erection, standardized components, straightforward replacement of damaged panels, and the potential for good thermal and acoustic performance when insulation is integrated. They also offer a relatively lightweight alternative to solid walls and can achieve diverse aesthetics.

Limitations include potential thermal bridging at the fixing points, the need for precise workmanship to ensure weather sealing, and the requirement to replace damaged panels rather than repair them. Fire safety considerations depend on the panel materials and cores and must comply with local regulations, especially for higher-rise structures.

Panelengevels are widely used for office, commercial, hospital, and residential buildings, and are common in Europe and other regions as a versatile cladding option.
