Palletit, known in English as pallets, are flat transport structures designed to support goods during handling, storage, and shipping. They form the base for unitized loads, allowing stacking and movement by forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors. Palletit are used in warehouses, distribution networks, manufacturing, and retail.

Materials and construction: Most pallets are wooden, but plastic, metal, and composite pallets are common, especially for reusable systems and food or pharmaceutical handling. Wooden pallets are typically stringer or block designs and may be 2-way or 4-way entry to forklift pockets. Regional variants include the European pallet (Euro pallet) and North American pallets, which differ in dimensions and tolerances.

Standards and sizing: The European Euro pallet measures 1200 by 800 millimeters and is widely used in Europe under standardized quality programs such as EPAL. In North America the standard is commonly 40 by 48 inches (about 1016 by 1219 millimeters). Other regions use 1000 by 1200 millimeters (UK) or other sizes. For international shipments, wooden pallets are often heat treated to meet ISPM 15 requirements.

Uses and logistics: Palletit enable efficient handling, warehousing, and intermodal transport. They support pallet pooling and rental schemes, where companies like CHEP and PECO provide standardized pallets and maintenance. Maintenance may include repair, cleaning, and refurbishing to extend service life.

Environmental and safety considerations: Palletit contribute to waste reduction when repaired or recycled. Reuse and recycling programs, along with material choice and weight capacity, influence environmental impact and safety in handling.
