paklijsten
Paklijsten, or packing lists, are documents that accompany shipments and detail the contents and packaging of goods. They support receiving departments in verifying items, aid customs clearance and freight handling, and help with inventory control. In Dutch trade practice, paklijsten are commonly used alongside related documents to ensure accurate receipt and documentation of goods.
- Shipment reference, dates, and the names of the shipper and consignee (receiver)
- Purchase order numbers or other reference identifiers
- Itemized lines: description, item code or SKU, quantity, and unit of measure
- Weights and dimensions: net weight, gross weight, and package sizes
- Packaging details: type (carton, pallet), carton numbers, and container numbers if applicable
- Serial numbers, batch or lot numbers, and expiry dates when relevant
- Country of origin and, optionally, HS codes or value notes
- Totals for quantities and, if needed, a packing or carton summary
A paklijst is used by warehouses to verify contents on arrival, by customs authorities to assess duties
Packing lists can be paper-based or electronic, and are frequently generated from or integrated with ERP
