Paberimatt is a term used in Estonian to denote a matte paper finish or a matte paper product. It describes a surface that diffuses light, reducing glare and fingerprints, resulting in a non-glossy appearance. The term is used in printing, publishing, and packaging contexts, where a matte finish is chosen for its subdued reflectivity and tonal range.

Production and varieties: Matte papers may be uncoated or have a matte coating. They differ in texture, from smooth to textured (felt-marked). They are formulated for different printing technologies, including inkjet, laser, and offset printing. Matte finishes are often made with mineral fillers and binders that reduce light reflection. Archival or acid-free grades are available for art prints and professional publishing.

Characteristics and considerations: Advantages of a matte finish include reduced glare, easier viewing under bright lighting, and a softer tonal balance. They generally reproduce blacks and colors with a more muted gloss and can be preferred for readability of text and for art prints with subtle gradations.
