oxidationsbarheten
Oxidationsbarheten, or oxidizability, is the propensity of a chemical species to undergo oxidation, that is, to lose electrons or increase its oxidation state, under specified conditions. It is a key concept in redox chemistry and materials science and is distinct from, but related to, reducibility and oxidative strength. In practice, oxidizability is often discussed in terms of oxidation potential; substances that readily lose electrons are more easily oxidized under appropriate conditions.
The concept is closely tied to redox potentials and to a molecule's electronic structure. Compounds with relatively
Measurement and estimation are usually indirect. Electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry yield redox potentials related
Examples: alkali metals and some transition metals in low oxidation states show high oxidizability, readily forming
Note: Oxidizability is context-dependent and should be described with specific conditions, oxidants, and solvents in mind.
