Ortorektifikációt is a Hungarian term referring to the process of orthorectification, a geometric correction applied to aerial or satellite imagery. This correction is essential for creating accurate maps and for performing precise measurements from remotely sensed data. Orthorectification removes distortions caused by factors such as the terrain's relief (topography) and the camera's viewing angle.

The primary goal of ortorektifikációt is to transform an image, which is essentially a perspective projection, into an orthographic projection. An orthographic projection is a scaled representation of an object as seen from a distance, where parallel projection lines are perpendicular to the projection plane. In the context of imagery, this means that every point in the corrected image has the same scale as it would on a map, regardless of its elevation.

To achieve ortorektifikációt, a digital elevation model (DEM) is used. The DEM provides information about the ground surface elevation. By combining the original image with the DEM and information about the sensor's position and orientation (orientation parameters), sophisticated algorithms can calculate the precise ground location for each pixel in the image. This process effectively removes the geometric distortions, resulting in an orthorectified image, often referred to as an orthophoto.

Orthorectified images are invaluable in various fields, including photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), urban planning, and environmental monitoring. They can be used as base maps, for land cover classification, change detection, and precise area or distance calculations, providing a geometrically accurate representation of the Earth's surface.
