Ordrebasert is a Norwegian term used to describe processes or systems driven by customer orders or explicit requests rather than by forecasts or proactive planning. The concept is applied across several domains, including manufacturing, logistics, and information technology, where the triggering factor for action is an actual order or request rather than a predicted demand.

In manufacturing and supply chain management, ordrebasert produksjon (make-to-order) triggers production only after a confirmed customer order. This approach reduces work in progress and inventory and enables high customization, but it can result in longer lead times and greater sensitivity to demand fluctuations compared with forecast-driven (make-to-stock) strategies.

In information technology and data processing, ordrebasert processing describes handling tasks in the sequence defined by incoming orders or requests, for example in a job queue or in workflow systems. The emphasis is on the order of execution, which is important for data integrity, traceability, and user experience. This can be contrasted with time-based or batch processing, where actions occur at scheduled times irrespective of individual orders.

Etymology and usage: the term combines ordre (order) and basert på (based on). In Norwegian business language, ordrebasert is commonly used alongside synonyms such as bestillingsstyrt to describe systems and processes that respond to explicit orders rather than forecasts.
