Nondeviant is an adjective used to describe behavior, actions, or individuals that do not depart from established norms or expectations within a given social context. In sociology and related disciplines, deviance refers to violations of norms; nondeviant behavior, by contrast, aligns with those norms and is typically viewed as conforming or ordinary within that setting.

The term is less common in scholarly writing, which more often uses terms such as conformity, normative behavior, or rule-following. When it is used, nondeviant functions as a descriptive label rather than a theoretical category, signaling that something is consistent with the prevailing standards of a community, organization, or culture. Examples might include following traffic laws, adhering to dress codes, or performing everyday civic duties.

Because norms vary across cultures and over time, what counts as nondeviant is contextual and may change. Behaviors that are nondeviant in one context may be considered deviant in another, and individuals may display nondeviant conduct in some domains while showing deviance in others. The term can carry normative connotations, and its use may obscure the complexities of social norms and rule-following in diverse groups.
