Niiskusmugavus is the Estonian term for moisture comfort, describing the degree to which moisture conditions within a material, garment or space support pleasant and healthy use. It covers how moisture is produced, transferred and removed, and how these processes interact with temperature and air movement to affect the wearer’s or occupant’s skin microclimate. The concept is used across textiles, footwear, bedding and built environments to express how effectively moisture is managed in real-world conditions.

In textiles, niiskusmugavus relies on moisture management properties such as absorption, wicking, evaporation and breathability, which depend on fiber content, fabric structure and finishes. Measurements commonly involve wicking rate, moisture regain and moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR).
