Neurointerventioneller is a term used chiefly in German-language medical literature to describe a physician who specializes in neurointerventional procedures. In English-language contexts, these specialists are commonly called interventional neuroradiologists or neurointerventionalists. The role focuses on catheter-based, image-guided treatments of diseases affecting the brain, spinal cord, and the cerebrovascular system, often using fluoroscopy with digital subtraction angiography.

The scope of practice includes diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions for conditions such as acute ischemic stroke, intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, cerebral or spinal vascular malformations, and complex vascular lesions. Common procedures include mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel occlusions, coil embolization of aneurysms, stent-assisted coil techniques, flow-diverting stents, and embolization of AVMs or fistulas. They may also perform endovascular treatment of carotid or intracranial stenosis, angioplasty, and, in some centers, tumor embolization or spinal vascular interventions.

Training typically involves residency in radiology or neurosurgery, followed by a fellowship in neurointerventional radiology or endovascular neurosurgery.
