Nenäluu, also known as the nasal bone, refers to a pair of small, paired bones that form the bridge of the nose. These bones are located at the top of the nasal cavity, below the frontal bone and between the maxillae. Each nenäluu is roughly quadrilateral in shape, articulating with its contralateral counterpart medially and with the frontal bone superiorly. Inferiorly, they articulate with the nasal cartilages.

The nenäluu plays a crucial role in the structure and appearance of the face. It provides support for the upper part of the nose and contributes to the projection of the nasal bridge. The size and shape of the nenäluu can vary between individuals, influencing the overall contour of the nose. These bones are relatively thin and can be susceptible to fracture, particularly in cases of facial trauma. Fractures of the nenäluu are common and often result in a noticeable deformity of the nasal bridge.

Developmentally, the nenäluu ossifies from intramembranous ossification during the fetal period. They fuse together in the midline shortly after birth. In some medical contexts, particularly in relation to prenatal diagnostics, the presence and size of the nenäluu can be assessed. A hypoplastic or absent nenäluu can be associated with certain genetic syndromes, such as Down syndrome.
