It is not a universally standardized term, and in mainstream reference works the concept is typically addressed under the general heading of negation rather than under a fixed label like negaci.

In discussions that use the term, negaci can function as a broad umbrella covering how languages express negative meanings, the structural position of negative elements, and the scope of negation within clauses. It may be employed in theoretical, typological, and descriptive analyses to compare strategies across languages, including the use of particles, affixes, or verbal inflections to signal negation, as well as how negation interacts with tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality.
