This condition can arise from various underlying causes, including nutritional deficiencies, chronic diseases, genetic disorders, or blood loss. Symptoms often include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, and cold hands and feet, though severity varies depending on the type and cause of anemia.

The most prevalent form of nedokrevnost is iron-deficiency anemia, which occurs when the body lacks sufficient iron to produce hemoglobin. This can result from inadequate dietary iron intake, poor absorption (common in conditions like celiac disease), or chronic blood loss, such as from heavy menstruation or gastrointestinal bleeding. Other types include vitamin deficiency anemias (e.g., folate or vitamin B12 deficiency), hemolytic anemia (where red blood cells are destroyed prematurely), and aplastic anemia (a rare condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough cells).
