Moultings refer to the process of shedding and replacing feathers, hair, skin, or exoskeletons in various animals, primarily birds, mammals, and insects. This natural process allows animals to grow new, often more functional or colorful, coverings, enabling maintenance of health, adaptation to environmental changes, or preparation for reproductive periods.

In birds, moulting typically occurs annually and involves the shedding of old feathers to make way for new ones. This process can be gradual or seasonal, depending on species.
