monikehyksinen

Monikehyksinen is a Finnish adjective meaning “multiframe” or “composed of many frames.” It denotes a design or architectural approach in which spaces, objects, or images are defined by multiple frame-like boundaries. Etymology: from moni- (many) and kehyksinen (framed).

The term is mainly used in Finnish-language design discourse, including architectural theory, graphic design, and art criticism. It is often applied to describe compositions that employ a grid or sequence of overlapping or nested frames to organize visual space, light, and rhythm.

Characteristics include multiplicity of frames, modular segmentation, layered or transparent interactions between frames, and emphasis on rhythm over a single focal point. The approach can influence perception by creating depth, order, or fragmentation.
