A miniroundabout is a small circular intersection designed to manage traffic flow on minor roads or in residential areas. It features a central circular island that all approaches must yield to as they enter the circle. Miniroundabouts are smaller and lighter to install than standard roundabouts, intended for lower traffic volumes and constrained spaces.

Vehicles circulating in the mini-roundabout have priority over those entering; approaching drivers must yield to traffic already on the circle and to pedestrians where applicable. Signage and road markings indicate the priority and path, and there are no traffic signals at most miniroundabouts. The geometry creates deflection that slows speeds and helps reduce accidents.

Advantages include safer and slower turning movements, fewer points of conflict than traditional junctions, lower cost and land take compared with larger roundabouts, and improved traffic flow on minor roads. They are popular in towns and near schools and shopping areas where space is limited but a junction control is needed.

Limitations include potential confusion for drivers unfamiliar with the design, especially if approaching from multiple directions; large vehicles or bicycles may require careful assessment of the island size and setback. They are less effective at handling high volumes or high-speed approaches, and careful maintenance of markings and signage is necessary to sustain performance.

Design guidance emphasizes adequate sightlines, appropriate island sizing, and clear markings to indicate yield to circulating traffic. In some regions miniroundabouts use a painted central island or a raised island; their appearance may differ with jurisdiction and road authority.
