Minimeeruks are a small, domesticated breed of duck originating from Estonia, where they are commonly referred to as *minimeer* (meaning "small sea" in Estonian). These ducks are descendants of the larger Muscovy duck (*Cairina moschata*) but have been selectively bred to achieve a compact, friendly, and manageable size, typically weighing between 1.5 to 2.5 kilograms (3.3 to 5.5 pounds).

Minimeeruks are known for their docile temperament, making them well-suited for backyard poultry keeping. They are often described as curious and social, enjoying human interaction and thriving in both free-range and confined environments. Their plumage varies but commonly features a mix of black, white, and brown feathers, with some individuals displaying a distinctive ruffled appearance around the neck.

These ducks are excellent foragers, capable of finding their own food while also accepting supplementary grains and vegetables. They are prolific layers, producing around 150 to 200 eggs per year, though the eggs are larger than those of common domestic ducks like the Pekin. Minimeeruks are not as cold-hardy as some other duck breeds but adapt well to temperate climates, including those in northern Europe.

Breeding minimeeruks involves careful selection to maintain their small size and gentle disposition. They are not recognized by major poultry organizations like the American Poultry Association but remain popular among Estonian and European poultry enthusiasts. Their popularity has also spread to other regions, where they are appreciated for their dual-purpose utility—providing eggs and, to a lesser extent, meat—along with their engaging personality.
