Minimalisointia is a general notion used in Finnish-language discourse to describe the process of reducing something to its simplest or smallest form according to a specified criterion. The concept is applied across disciplines, including mathematics, computer science, information theory, and sometimes linguistics. At its core, minimalisointi seeks to remove redundancy, compress structure, or otherwise lower a measure of complexity while preserving essential properties.

In mathematics and optimization, minimalisointi refers to finding the minimum value of an objective function, possibly under constraints.
