Megatall is a term used in architecture and the study of tall buildings to describe structures that exceed 1,000 meters (about 3,281 feet) in architectural height. It represents the uppermost tier in commonly used classifications for skyscrapers, with the related terms “tall” and “supertall” applying to lower height thresholds. Height is typically measured to the architectural top, as defined by CTBUH standards, and generally includes architectural elements such as spires while excluding non-architectural additions like antennae.

As of now, no megatall building has been completed. The tallest completed structure is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, at 828 meters. Several projects have been publicly proposed or are under development with targets near or at 1,000 meters, the most notable being the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia. Construction on that project has experienced interruptions and changes in status, so a megatall has not yet materialized.

Because no megatall exists, the term remains largely theoretical and is primarily used in planning discussions, architectural discourse, and studies of future urban infrastructure. Realizing a megatall would pose substantial challenges, including wind engineering, foundation design, vertical transportation, energy supply, safety systems, and the broader social and economic implications for surrounding cities. Proponents cite potential gains in symbolic city branding and advanced construction techniques, while critics highlight risks and cost.
