Manusstruktur, or manuscript structure, refers to the organizational framework used to arrange the content of a manuscript for reading, evaluation, and publication. In Scandinavian languages, the term manusstruktur denotes this concept. A clear structure helps readers follow the argument or narrative and aids editors in assessing the work.

In many fields, manuscripts follow a core set of elements: a title page with author information; an abstract or summary; keywords; and the main body, which may be organized differently depending on discipline. In the sciences and many applied fields, the IMRaD format is common: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion, often preceded by a brief literature review and followed by conclusions. Humanities projects may present a more flexible architecture, such as introduction, theoretical framework, analysis or argument chapters, and a concluding synthesis, with footnotes or endnotes and a bibliography. Creative manuscripts may arrange in acts or chapters, with a focus on scene progression, pacing, and character development.

Additional elements include acknowledgments, ethical statements, declarations of conflict of interest, appendices, figures and tables with captions, and supplementary information. The manuscript may require specific formatting, such as a title page, abstract length, section headings, citation style, and reference formatting, imposed by journals or publishers.

Effective manuscript structure is often planned through outlining and early drafting, with revisions guided by peer or editor feedback. The structure should align with the intended readership and submission guidelines, and it may be adjusted during revision to improve coherence and clarity.
