Mallityypikäsitteet refers to the concepts of model types. In various fields, including statistics, machine learning, and software engineering, models are used to represent phenomena, predict outcomes, or describe systems. Understanding different model types is crucial for selecting the appropriate tool for a given task.

One common distinction is between descriptive and predictive models. Descriptive models aim to explain existing data, summarizing patterns and relationships without necessarily forecasting future events. For example, a survey analysis that describes the demographics of a population is a descriptive model.
